STATE OF THE DISTRICT ADDRESS

STATE OF THE DISTRICT ADDRESS
January, 2013
“Destiny is no matter of chance.  It is a matter of choice.  It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved”- William Jennings Bryan

My fellow District 29 Toastmasters and beyond…it is my pleasure to provide you the most up to date information on how well your District Leadership is performing in the following area(s) of our  Strategic Plan:

1. Leadership
2. District Growth
3. District Support
4. District Communications
5. Member Recognition
_____________________________________________________________
First, is Leadership!  On February 7, 2013 our District Executive Committee met at Dewberry in Fairfax and convened for strategizing for the 2nd half of the Toastmasters Year!

In our meeting each Area and Division received their “Contest Trophies.”  We were so excited to have our Nominations Committee Chairman, Past District 27 Governor, Karen Booker, DTM!  Karen provided a brief presentation on the Nominations Process for those looking to move forward in their leadership track.

We also discussed upcoming Area Contests and Division Contests dates.  Each Division Governor/Representative provided a brief presentation on their “State of the Division.”

District Governor reminded the team that the treadmill is in the decline position, it is moving faster and pretty soon we will finish at our destination.  We have 4 months left in the year and it is quickly approaching.
_____________________________________________________________
Our Second initiative is District Growth!  Congratulations to Division A for helping our District gain (1) new club: Gribble Gatekeepers, Club# 2380650, Division A, Area 11!  We welcome all of our new clubs to our family and look forward to working with you to help your clubs remain strong!  Presently we have 125 “Active Clubs” in our District.
Our District goal is to build our District with over 17 new clubs!  So far we have built 7 Clubs.  Look for our goal setting achievements on our District homepage!

Our Region 7 Advisor, Sharon Hill visited our District on February 17-18th.  She gave a great presentation on what it takes to become a Club Sponsor/Mentor/Coach.  Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GmiLsDB0qc&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Our Third initiative is District Support!  Servant Leadership is the aspiration of all Toastmasters Volunteers who are in Leadership roles.  After all, “Toastmasters is Where Leaders are Made.”

Corporate Award!-Our incredible Region 7 Advisor, Sharon Anita Hill, DTM, proudly presented the “Corporate Award” to AOL Toastmasters.  AOL Executives supports the Club by mandating all Year Up Interns to attend Toastmasters.  Additionally AOL also provides University credits to those who participate in Toastmasters.  While their facilities are exceptional, the District, Division and Area has enjoyed the opportunity to host Toastmasters events there.  Thank you AOL for all you do for our Toastmasters Club and Community!! Super Sunday Leadership Seminar-Our LGET team did an excellent job putting together a very useful seminar!  We were especially thrilled to hear from one of our most successful clubs….GPS Toastmasters!  AKA Gainesville Professional Speakers!  Wow, check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEXT4yWPVgs&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Spring Conference-Our LGET Juliette Brown and her team has done an incredible job putting together an incredible Spring Conference.  The Spring Conference will be held at the Hyatt at Fair Oaks on May 3rd & 4th!  Please register before March 31st to catch the Early Bird Special.  Go to our homepage to get more details at: www.d29tm.org

Our Area Governors are working on scheduling their 2nd Round of visits between January and April!  Please ensure that we effectively communicate with our Area Governors.  They are here to assist and serve our member clubs.  By attending an Area Council meeting, your club has a higher chance of becoming successful! Please let me know if you haven’t heard from your Area Governor yet.

Congratulations to our February 2013 “Of the Month” Award Recipients:

·        Area 31 Governor, Kirk Johnson, ACB/ALB- When the District needed leaders to help with an Area, Kirk stepped up to the plate.  Kirk has the ability to work very well in teams and demonstrated this by also volunteering to serve on our Realignment Committee.  Kirk has done an excellent job serving his clubs and helping his fellow Area Governors succeed.
·        Prince William County Toastmasters President, Nerine Clemenzi, CC,CL- Nerine has taken the time out of her busy schedule to assist the District with a Professional Video Recording of our Super Sunday Leadership Seminar.  Nerine has also helped the District with photos at various events.  Capturing our leaders in action, inspire others to follow!
·        Division A Governor, Paul Chamberlin, DTM- Paul has done an incredible job working with his Area Governors known as the “A Team.” When he is not helping to build a New Club in the District, Paul acts as the consummate Leader by “Leading by Example.”  When the District requested for Paul to help a new Toastmaster achieve his goals to attain (5) speeches, he became a Mentor and stepped right in to help.  Paul demonstrated “Serving the Member” in his Division.  Kudos!
·        Speak Your Mind Toastmaster Jerry Straus, DTM and Non-Toastmaster Contributor, Quinton Yarbrough                 -This dynamic duo has aided our District Executive Committee team with access to Dewberry (On Weekends) and provided exceptional service.  Without their assistance we would not have audio/visual.  Thank you!! (Provided on February 17, 2013)
·        Realignment Chair, Edmond Joe, DTM- Some of you may know Edmond Joe as “District Paparazzi” and can find him at District events helping us capture over 800 photos so far this year….whew!  Additionally Edmond serves as the Realignment Chair for 2012-2013 and oversees a committee of dedicated Toastmasters to aide the District in the upcoming year! (Provided on February 17, 2013).

Outstanding job by our District leadership,  Club Officers and our 29 Fabulous February Achievers for receiving their education and leadership awards!!   Go District 29!  You rock!! That’s 10 more than last month!!
